Requirements of a Host
Friendly, welcoming family. You should provide a warm, caring environment and show genuine interest in your student’s welfare.
Clean, comfortable environment with adequate facilities.
Private Bedroom – Student rooms obviously require a bed, bedside table, lamp, a working light, an openable window, a power point, and storage facilities.
Laundry – Some hosts prefer to do all the washing and drying, others are happy to let the students do their own washing.
Meals – Some students will require three meals per day, and others may only require two meals per day, you will be advised of the meal structure when we book a student with you. Students are to prepare their own breakfast and lunch from ingredients provided and dinner is prepared by the Host seven days a week.
Heating and cooling – While we don’t expect students to have heaters and air conditioners in their bedrooms, it is important that the home is a comfortable temperate when possible
Internet – Wi-Fi internet must be provided in all homes
Toiletries and Linen – Host are expected to provide toilet paper, hand soap, washing powder or liquid, towels, and bed linen. Student are expected to bring their own toiletries and personal items such as toothpaste, body wash, shampoo and conditioner and hair dryers.
English – A non-English background does not prevent you from hosting a student, but English should be spoken in the home at all times.
Convenient location – it is expected the student travels no more than 45 minutes by public transport to their school.
Background checks – SAS require both a Police check and a Working with children check every host and household resident over the age of 18 years.
